Social Skills Friendshops

Weeklong Social Skills Workshops
Our Summer Friendshops are the perfect place to learn and practice the essential skills for making and keeping friends. In our fun, creative and supportive workshops, kids and teens work on connecting with peers, joining in, reading social cues, teamwork, and so much more. We include creative and expressive therapies, games, art, improv, teamwork challenges, drumming, yoga and mindfulness, movement, and so much more.

Our older groups will have the opportunity to go into the community to get coffee, lunch, or ice cream to work on friendship skills, understanding nuances and reading the social cues involved while out and about with friends.

Our Friendshops are week-long therapeutic workshops where kids will be placed with up to 5 additional peers. We do an intake with all kids and teens and make sure that the groups we are putting together feel like a good fit for everyone. A licensed therapist and a clinical assistant facilitate the workshops and we bring in creative specialists to make it even more fun, dynamic, and exciting!

Information is shared with parents/guardians via email at the end of every day about what was covered in the group, what skills were worked on and what they can do at home to reinforce the skills. When the Friendshop is over, parents/guardians will receive a progress update about how their child did, what specific skills we worked on, amazing progress that we saw and any further recommendations that we may have.

Our Friendshops will meet Monday-Friday in our Needham location from 9:00-1:00.

More About Our Groups
We are so excited to offer some of our creative and expressive therapy groups this Summer.

“Coping Outside The Box” – Creative and Expressive Based Coping Skills Group

Coping Outside the Box is a weekly therapeutic group that will run for 8 weeks this summer. The group will work toward building coping skills with a focus on regulation, anxiety and stress management. We will be using a variety of creative outlets, including but not limited to, music, art, crafts, and mindfulness. Introducing different types of creative and artistic interventions gives participants an opportunity to explore new ways of managing difficult feelings, expressing their thoughts, and supporting themselves emotionally.

Calm Together – (Connection and Regulation Group for Preschoolers and Their Parent/Caregiver)

Calm Together is a therapeutic group for caregivers and their child (3-4 years old). The group will run for 4 weeks this summer and will focus on emotion regulation, coping skills, and how to support your little ones when experiencing big feelings! Using creative strategies, we will engage your child together in emotion identification, regulation, and cultivating a calm environment. We will be using a variety of interventions to strengthen the caregiver-child relationship, practicing take home skills, and focusing on new ways of integrating skills into everyday life.

“Yes And…”- Summer Therapeutic Improv Group

“Yes And…” is a therapeutic Improv Group to help teens work on Social Skills and Social Anxiety in a fun, creative and engaging way. Improv offers kids and teens an opportunity to engage with others, be flexible, creative, silly, funny, work through insecurities, connect with peers, and gain confidence.
